$1 million splash for swimming centre

Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing the Hon Corey Wingard MP has announced the Rural City of Murray Bridge has been successful in securing funding through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program. The grant of $1 million is for upgrades at the Murray Bridge Swimming Centre. This will assist the upgrading of the outdoor 8 lane 50 metre swimming pool, change rooms, the plant room and associated pipework.

The Murray Bridge Swimming Centre has been a vital part of the Murray Bridge community since it opened in December 1959 celebrating 60 years later this year.

The centre hosts VacSwim over summer and many school groups during the year. These lessons are most important in a community situated on the River Murray.

Home to the Murray Cods Swimming Club, these upgrades will make it easier to attract more competitive swimming events including Country Championships.

Recent upgrades at the centre saw the installation of a Water Play Park with five waterslides for children, various water features and a 48 metre supaslide for teenagers and adults.

Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick MP, is excited by this funding boost to what is a great asset to Murray Bridge.

“This funding shows the Marshall Government’s commitment to grassroots recreation and sport by building essential infrastructure in local communities,” Mr Pederick said.
