Health on Fleurieu requires Government attention

Liberal Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick has called on Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock to investigate concerns about health services on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

The State Liberals understand that the Southern Fleurieu Cancer Support and Resource Group is facing service closures.

“The Southern Fleurieu Cancer Support and Resource Group ‘Cancer Car’ provides a wonderful service for residents who need to travel to Adelaide for cancer related treatment and medical appointments,” said Mr Pederick.

“It is devastating to hear that due to Health Department changes, this service is at risk.

“I am calling on Minister Brock, as Regional Development Minister, to immediately investigate this issue.

“The Weatherill Labor Government claims it is committed to stronger regional policies and is more responsive to the needs of South Australia’s regional communities – it’s now time to deliver.

“Regional areas, such as the Fleurieu Peninsula, deserve the same health services afforded to metropolitan areas.”

“Goolwa residents continually contact me with concerns regarding the lack of appropriate and adequate health services available on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

“This issue is not new; however, the Weatherill Labor Government continues to ignore the fact that health services as a whole on the Fleurieu Peninsula require attention.

“We must see improved support and rehabilitation services for people and families suffering from mental health and substance abuse.

“We must see better resources for residents undergoing treatment for cancer and other illness.

“We must see improved support for patients requiring transport to metropolitan health facilities for treatment.

“It’s time the Weatherill Labor Government stopped ignoring regional health matters.”
