Hammond Electorate

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (15:40): I rise today to talk about one sad happening in my electorate, amongst a lot of growth in my electorate as well. I mourn the closure in a couple of years' time of the Big W distribution centre at Monarto. It is a massive centre set on 35,000 square metres under cover and employs 212 people—that is, 212 individuals, not full-time equivalents. I want to thank Paul Crossley from the Woolworths government relations team for at least discussing this issue with me.

Negative Gearing

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (12:01): I rise to support the motion moved by the member for Waite:

Bushfires and Emergency Services

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (16:13): As a proud member of the Country Fire Service, I am happy to support this motion supporting our emergency services, our volunteers and our community. I think 'community' is the word here because what happens when we have these disasters is that a whole community gets together. We have seen it whether it has been at Yorketown or whether it has been in the Mid North. We have had some fires in the Mallee as well, and obviously in recent times we have seen the ongoing fires in Queensland and New South Wales.

World Routes Aviation Conference

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (12:50): I would like to support the amended motion that was put by the Minister for Primary Industries. I just wish sometimes that people would concentrate a bit more on what happens in here. The member for Mawson indicated that we were churlish and childish in not acknowledging what the previous government had done, when the amendment that we want to insert actually reads:

SA Pathology and SA Medical Imaging

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (12:36): I rise to support the motion as amended by the Minister for Energy and Mining. Everything that needs to be said from the government side has been said, but I just have a few comments in regard to the hypocrisy of the people on the other side. It was those people, when they were in government, who commissioned reports and commissioned the privatisation of medical services throughout South Australia.
