Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (11:56): I rise to support the motion by the member for Schubert:

That this house recognise s the urgent need to implement traffic management solutions for Gawler to—

(a) p rovide local residents with quality infrastructure to reduce congestion;

(b) c reate a safer environment for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians; and

(c) m eet the rapid growth needs of the local Gawler area.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 15:30 ): I rise today to talk again about the impact of the New Zealand fur seals on the Lakes and Coorong Fishery. I want to make some points about some of the questions I asked of the Minister for Environment in estimates on how they were managing the effects the New Zealand Fur Seals were having on native birdlife and Ngarrindjeri totems in the Lakes and Coorong. The minister made the claim that not one bird has been killed by the New Zealand fur seals. The minister is failing to include visual evidence from the Hon. Tammy Franks and from fishermen who have had to accept seals wreaking havoc on birdlife and their livelihoods as an everyday occurrence.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 12:25 ): I rise to speak to the Statutes Amendment (Planning, Development and Infrastructure) Bill 2016. It is heading towards a year since we started debating the original bill, which was the repeal of the previous planning legislation from 1993. My concerns at the time were that some of the issues that arose from that debate were when we were well into the committee stage. We had made our second reading contributions, and next thing there were quite a few amendments coming through. In fact, I believe there were something like 300 amendments through the houses, and about 200 of those came from the government.

Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick is pleased to announce two possible funding opportunities for recreational sporting facilities and associations within the Hammond Electorate.

“Applications are now open for Round 42 of the Active Club Program and Round one of the Female Facilities Program,” said Mr Pederick.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 12:09 ): I rise to speak to the National Electricity (South Australia) (Australian Energy Regulator—Wholesale Market Monitoring) Amendment Bill 2016. This comes in line with another bill that I believe will be debated
later today. We are the lead jurisdiction for energy legislation, and these bills were developed by the COAG Energy Council's Energy Working Group in response to issues raised by the Australian Energy Market Commission, which is the national governing
body for our energy markets. These two bills were developed together as part of a national electricity law and national gas law amendment package. 

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (16:06): I rise to speak about a young gun footballer whose name is Abbie Ballard. She happens to live on a property next to us at Coomandook, and she is only 14 years old. With so many exciting opportunities arising in female football, it is great to see so many people taking part. Recently, the under-15 schoolgirls' state team returned home to South Australia after a week in Maroochydore competing at the School Sport Australia National Football Championships. The team had a great week both on and off the field, also seeing great individual success with two all-Australian selections.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 12:01 ): I rise to support the motion by the member for Morialta, that this house:

(a) recognises today is National Police Remembrance Day;

(b) values the unique work that the South Australia Police perform on behalf of our community; and

(c) expresses its sadness for and deep gratitude to the families of those officers who have lost their lives while doing their duty.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:25 ): I rise to finalise my remarks in regard to the Economic and Finance Committee's 91st report, entitled Inquiry into Local Government Rate Capping Policies. At the end of my recent comments in this house, I was talking about how people who are residents in local government areas are keen to make sure that they get appropriate services for their rates.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 15:10 ): I want to talk today about a couple of events I attended over the most recent weekend, one being the Murray Bridge Show and one being the International Pedal Prix held at Murray Bridge. Both these events are great events for the region and attract tens of thousands of people to the region over the weekend.

A Bill for an Act to minimise the risk to children posed by persons who work or volunteer with them; to provide for the screening of persons who want to work or volunteer with children; to provide for a system of accountability for persons working or volunteering with children; to prohibit those who pose an unacceptable risk to children from working or volunteering with children; to provide for a central assessment unit to undertake screening of persons who want to work or volunteer with children; and for other purposes.
