Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 16:44 ): I rise to make a few comments in relation to the Family Relationships (Parentage Presumptions) Amendment Bill 2015. I must say at the start of my contribution, a lot of bills and legislation go through this place and barely get a whimper out of your electorate, but certainly in relation to this bill, I got far more than a whimper.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:27 ): I want to make a brief contribution to the 538th report of the Public Works Committee regulating structures on Margaret Dowling Creek and Eckerts Creek. These structures will certainly be of benefit in the management of systems and environmental management right throughout the Murray, but as the member for Chaffey has indicated, we need to manage all of that water wisely because there is only so much of it. It has only been a few years since the millennium drought broke in September 2010 and it was a great feeling to see that muddy Darling water flowing into the river, because that was the first lot of water that relieved the situation for the River Murray in my electorate, when the water level had dropped by approximately two metres.

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (11:56): I pay due respect to the member for Bright and the significant amount of his life that he has spent in relation to this legislation in a former life. Be that as it may, he is always very insightful, especially in the work that he has done in the past, and he is doing very good work in the parliament. We are here today in regard to the Housing Improvement Bill. It is quite interesting. This is a bill for:

The Statutes Amendment (Rights of Foster Parents and Guardians) Bill 2015 (Finn’s Law) introduced by Liberal Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick, has passed through the House of Assembly this morning.

The Bill will now go before the Legislative Council.

Liberal Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick, can confirm after much anticipation, that the Statutes Amendment (Rights of Foster Parents and Guardians) Bill 2015 (Finn’s Law) is expected to pass through the House of Assembly.

In collaboration with the State Government, it is envisaged that Finn’s Law will pass through the House of Assembly tomorrow morning at 10:30am.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 15:49 ): I rise to speak to the Motor Vehicles (Trials of Automotive Technologies) Amendment Bill 2015. The bill enables the minister to authorise trials of automotive technologies and issue exemptions from the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act 1959—and this is obviously the act we are amending here today—and any laws that regulate a driver's use of motor vehicles on roads.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:37 ): I rise to speak to the Government House Precinct Land Dedication Bill 2015 and note that this bill is to dedicate a portion of land from the Government House Precinct to become part of the site for the ANZAC Centenary Memorial Garden Walk. It has been acknowledged that these grounds have been legislated under the Government House Domain Dedication Act 1927. This bill when it becomes an act—and I am sure it will because the bulldozers have already moved in so we probably have to get the legislation to catch up to the works—will reflect the new boundary that is 10 metres west of its current location.

Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick, recently met with Government representatives to discuss the future of the Swanport Bridge.

“After discussions with the Labor Government regarding the fate of the Swanport Bridge, I have been advised that the current speed restriction of 80km/h will continue into the long-term future,” said Mr Pederick.
