Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick today introduced a motion urging the State Government and the Minister for Health to implement a patient escalation policy with the inclusion of a medical intervention phone number, titled Leila’s Lifeline.

“I have introduced this motion to fulfil the wishes of Leila’s mother Edie, father Ricky and family and to also honour the life of little Leila,” said Mr Pederick

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 12:38 ): I move:

That this house notes—

(a) the exemplary work of MATES in Construction in its endeavour to prevent suicide in the construction industry and promote health and wellbeing;

(b) that MATES in Construction is a federation of independent industry-based MATES in Construction organisations throughout New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and here in South Australia;

(c) that MATES in Construction aims to raise awareness about suicide, making it easier to access help and ensuring that the help offered throughout the industry is practical, professional and appropriate; and

(d) that MATES in Construction has implemented the following programs to address the tragic rate of suicide in the industry:

(i) an individual case management program which aims to assist troubled workers with an effective plan to address their mental issues;

(ii) field visits, which involve field officers going from site to site to advise workers of the program; and

(iii) a post-vention program, which provides support where a worker or worker's family member has committed suicide.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:49 ): I move:

That this house urges the state government and the Minister for Health to outline and implement a patient care escalation policy with the inclusion of a medical intervention phone number for families, carers, guardians, and patients , as an initiative to prevent misdiagnosis and future deaths.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 16:51 ): I rise to finalise my comments briefly on the 100th report of the Natural Resources Committee, entitled Kangaroo Island NRM Region Fact-Finding Visit. In closing with a couple of comments, I would like to commend the Natural Resources Committee for what it does in its regional visits, going around the whole state to look at what is going on with natural resources. That is why I found it most interesting that the Premier needed to actually write to the Natural Resources Committee so that they could at least do one regional visit when it is common knowledge that they do regional visits as part of their remit. That is their role and I commend the whole committee for doing that.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:46 ): I rise to speak on the 109th to 115th reports of the Natural Resources Committee relating to various natural resources management levy proposals and plans for 2016-17. I will be echoing comments from my colleagues on the side of the house that this is an outrageous fee rise. I note my interest in natural resources, as I did when I presented to the committee. My wife is an environmental scientist and she helped set up integrated natural resources management maybe over a decade ago now, so I have a little bit of inside knowledge of what happens and I am still fed some information from some good people.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:04 ): I rise to speak to the Rail Safety National Law (South Australia) (Miscellaneous No. 2) Amendment Bill 2016. This is part of a range of bills that we have had in regard to Rail Safety National Law. I note that back in 2009 the Council of Australian Governments agreed to implement national rail safety reform so that we would end up with a national single rail safety regulator. In so doing, we would develop a rail safety national law which would, obviously, be administered by that rail regulator.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:31 ): I rise to speak to the regional report of the Natural Resources Committee, March 2014 to April 2016. I would like to reiterate that this is a well-travelled committee. I think they could certainly shine a light for other committees on what travel needs to be undertaken throughout the state to fulfil their responsibilities. I commend the work of the Chair and her committee in that they do reach out right across the state. They do not mind co-opting members on trips, as I have been able to go on one or two trips with the committee, and I certainly acknowledge that. It really is an interesting committee and it does a lot of good work.

In Murray Bridge, we have Murray Bridge Lutheran Homes, Murray Lands Retirement Village, Murray Heights Lutheran Village, Waterford Estate, and The Bridge Village. In Goolwa, we have West Park Residential Services, Thornbury Park Retirement Estate, Riverside Retirement Villages, Lakeside Goolwa, Village Life Goolwa, Heritage Homes, SunnyCove, SeaChange Village. At Tailem Bend, we have Taberefta Homes for the Aged.
