Liberals protect pensioners from cash grab

The State Liberals will protect South Australian pensioners from yet another cash grab by the Weatherill Government.

“The Weatherill Government is planning to abolish the pensioner concession on local government rates costing 160,000 South Australian pensioners up to $190 a year in additional rates,” said Liberal Member for Hammond, Adrian Pederick.

“The State Liberals will prevent the Weatherill Government from dragging another $32 million a year out of 160,000 South Australian pensioners.

“The State Liberals will join with non-Labor members of Parliament to prevent the Weatherill Government cutting the pensioner concession on local government rates.

“The Weatherill Government is paying for its wasteful spending by increasing the tax burden on ordinary South Australians.

“The State Liberals have already set out plans for reversing the Weatherill Government’s massive ESL tax grab that has hit homeowners, farmers, businesses, sporting clubs, community organisations, churches and independent schools.

“The State Liberals have staunchly opposed the Weatherill Government’s massive increase to the ESL, and that’s why our first act if elected in 2018 will be to reverse this $90 million tax grab.

“The State Liberals also successfully protected city carpark users from the Weatherill Government’s ill-considered carpark tax.

“The State Liberals tax policies will have a positive flow-on effect for the local economy by boosting business confidence and job creation.

“South Australians living in Hammond are already struggling with ever-increasing cost of living pressures under Labor, and our tax cuts will provide significant cost of living relief.

“We will continue to have more to say on tax reform and tax relief in the lead up to the 2018 election to help all South Australians struggling under the burden of the Weatherill Labor Government’s exorbitant tax regime” said Adrian
