Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:04 ): I rise to speak to the Rail Safety National Law (South Australia) (Miscellaneous No. 2) Amendment Bill 2016. This is part of a range of bills that we have had in regard to Rail Safety National Law. I note that back in 2009 the Council of Australian Governments agreed to implement national rail safety reform so that we would end up with a national single rail safety regulator. In so doing, we would develop a rail safety national law which would, obviously, be administered by that rail regulator.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:31 ): I rise to speak to the regional report of the Natural Resources Committee, March 2014 to April 2016. I would like to reiterate that this is a well-travelled committee. I think they could certainly shine a light for other committees on what travel needs to be undertaken throughout the state to fulfil their responsibilities. I commend the work of the Chair and her committee in that they do reach out right across the state. They do not mind co-opting members on trips, as I have been able to go on one or two trips with the committee, and I certainly acknowledge that. It really is an interesting committee and it does a lot of good work.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 12:57 ): I rise to speak to the Retirement Villages Bill 2016. I acknowledge the many villages throughout my electorate. In Murray Bridge, we have Murray Bridge Lutheran Homes, Murray Lands Retirement Village, Murray Heights Lutheran Village, Waterford Estate, and The Bridge Village. In Goolwa, we have West Park Residential Services, Thornbury Park Retirement Estate, Riverside Retirement Villages, Lakeside Goolwa, Village Life Goolwa, Heritage Homes, SunnyCove, SeaChange Village. At Tailem Bend, we have Taberefta Homes for the Aged.

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (12:31 ): I support the motion:

That this house—

(a) recognises International Nurses Day celebrated annually on 12 May;

(b) Acknowledges this year's theme, 'Nurses: a force for change: improving health systems' resilience ‘; and

(c) Congratulates South Australian nurses for their dedication and professionalism and the pivotal role they play in the advancement of all South Australians' health.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 16:33 ): I rise to speak to the Dog and Cat Management (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2015. As the member for Morphett has indicated, I was a part of the select committee into companion animals. The member for Morphett was on the committee, as was the Minister for Education, the late Bob Such (who brought this to the house) and the former member for Mitchell.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 10:39 ): Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker. I rise to speak to the Voluntary Euthanasia Bill 2016, and anyone who understands my feeling on this type of legislation will understand why I am saying that I will not be supporting the bill, and I will state some reasons why during the debate.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 11:53 ): In light of the time, to be fair to my colleagues I will try to be brief, but I will speak to the 39th report of the Social Development Committee into domestic and family violence. I would like to note our ever-hardworking staff in the Social Development Committee and also the contributions of the members for Fisher, Torrens and Reynell, the Hon. Gerry Kandelaars, the Hon. Gail Gago, the Hon. Jing Lee and the Hon. Kelly Vincent.

Mr PEDERICK (Hammond) (11:29): Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker. I was a little distracted during the final moments of the member for Chaffey's comments, but what I will say in this place is that I have willingly entered Mobilong Prison quite a few times and have willingly been allowed to leave—yes, I have always been able to leave.

Mr PEDERICK ( Hammond ) ( 12:44 ):

I rise to speak to the Supply Bill 2016. It will not be any surprise to the house that we are supporting this bill, which is an act for the appropriation of money from the Consolidated Account for the financial year ending on 30 June 2017. This bill, when it becomes an act, will allow the appropriate spending of money within government until the budget is assented to. As it says in the bill, we are talking about the appropriation of the sum of $3,444 million, and this is absolutely vital to keep the wheels of the state turning in the months before the budget is assented to. I have a list of issues I want to raise in regard to supply and where money should be spent.
