Liberal Regional Affairs Committee to visit Chaffey

The Riverland and Mallee is the first region to be visited by members of the State Liberals Regional Affairs Committee.

The Committee has been established to hold the Weatherill Labor Government accountable with its renewed focus on and commitment to regional South Australia.

Liberal Member for Hammond and Chair of the Regional Affairs Committee, Adrian Pederick, said it was a great opportunity for committee members to learn about a number of exciting projects currently being undertaken in the region.

“Chaffey is one of the most important electorates in South Australia with its great tourism opportunities and well developed primary production industries underpinning the area’s economy,” said Mr Pederick.

“It will be great to spend time in the community and meet with industry to discuss a number of opportunities being explored in the region.”

Members of the committee will join Member for Chaffey and committee member Tim Whetstone on Thursday 12 June.

During the visit, MPs will experience the citrus industry in full swing, meet with stakeholders in horticulture and agriculture and explore tourism projects in the region.

Mr Whetstone, who invited the RAC to visit, said its important regions such as the Riverland and Mallee received support and recognition.

“Chaffey is the food bowl of South Australia and it is important the region is provided with support to continue to grow and prosper,” Mr Whetstone said.

“It’s great to have such interest in the Riverland from my colleagues and this visit reinforces the State Liberals’ commitment to regional South Australia.”
